What is a Concussion?
A concussion is a type of brain injury that changes the way the brain normally works and is caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head.
Concussions are serious business for young athletes, particularly those who play football. Each year, an estimated 1.7 million people sustain a concussive traumatic brain injury, making it a contributing factor to nearly one-third of all injury-related deaths in the United States. Fortunately, early concussion treatment can make a significant difference. That is why Saint Francis Medical Center has developed a Concussion Clinic that specializes in early follow-up and recovery management.
